Following the Final Fall of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815 and the Restoration of the Bourbon Dynasty to the throne of France, Europe was trying to restore stability in the relationships between the nations of Europe, while at the same time making sure that characteristics of the Revolution would never again appear in the continent. States created larger and more efficient Bureaucracies, secret Police forces, and more efficient censorship offices. States also attacked the legacies of the enlightenment. The institution that suffered the most from the French Revolution and the Age of Enlightenment was the Roman Catholic Church. The Churches of Europe (Both Catholic and Protestant) witnessed a remarkable recovery during the Restoration Period (1815-1830).
